Settling Back Into Family Life

We are slowly settling in to the home routine with a few slight changes. We are now all systems go with the introduction of solids. This feels like such a step forward in the parenting department and it really is not as easy as I had always thought. There is a lot of mental preparation behind the scenes before the well-balanced, nutritious menu of meals is shopped for a prepared each week. Having said this, Noah is a trooper and loves exploring the new toys we place on the high chair for him each meal - some of it even gets swallowed.

Before I lurch into the future, we must not forget that we went on a fantastic holiday recently and I'm so excited to share it with you... this is going to be a long post so perhaps you should grab yourself a cuppa?

These were taken the day before we left, I couldn't resist sharing them though.

 Day One:
We arrived and set up the cabin then took Noah for his first swim. It was very cold so we didn't stay in for long but he enjoyed it and was grabbing at the water and splashing us. Once we'd had a shower, we went for a little walk around the town and found a playground. Noah giggled as we swung on the swings and really enjoyed being cuddled as we walked back to the cabin. We went up to the lookout to watch the sunset. Later that night I was going to have a shower but I stopped peek-a-boo behind the bathroom door while Noah sat on Andy's lap. I wondered why he kept turning away when I went behind the door because usually he stares and waits for you to reappear, then I realised there was a mirror on the cabinet that was giving him a reflection of me behind the door so he was just turning he head to see me there. After a while I stood still and he was turning his head between the real me and the mirror me trying to figure it out. You really can't pay for entertainment like this.

Day Two:
We stopped into the next town for lunch and to visit a minerals display. When we arrived Noah had so time out of the car seat, playing in the local playground and eating some of Dad's lunch. Once we arrived at our destination for the night we went for a stroll down the main street and as usual Noah got many compliments that he met with his gorgeous smile.

Day Three:
We left nice and early so that we could meet up with Nanna and Great Nanna as soon as possible that afternoon. On the way we stopped into some hot springs, the water reaches 70 degrees so we didn't take Noah in for a swim. As we came down the windy road to get to our final destination, Noah decided he was sick of the car and so I got into the back with him and he was crying real tears... poor little man. We finally arrived and did some grocery shopping. The look on Noah's face as we walked through the shops was priceless, so many things to look at! Andy put him into the baby bjorn to walk around the shops and everything that Andy picked up to put into the trolley Noah grabbed onto and helped him carry it to the trolley too. We arrived at the hotel and saw Nanna and Great Nanna! I handed Noah straight to Nanna and they just looked at each other, Mum had such a huge smile on her face and Noah was just sussing her out. It didn't take long before he gave her his seal of approval - she could stick around and give him a few more cuddles. That night we went out to a lovely greek restaurant and now had his first restaurant meal. He ate some tomato, lettuce, capsicum and cucumber. And for dessert - the paper table cloth.

Day Four:
Noah found Daddy's belt fascinating to munch on this morning. This was the first sign of what was in store for us with his teeth. We had to get ready to go and see the paediatrician to discuss Noah's neck and his possible food allergies. He got the all clear and we were free to head out to DFO for some shopping!!! Noah smiled at every shop assistant. Once we had done our bit for the economy at DFO we went to Toy R Us. What a great outing for kids (if you intend on buying them something that is). There were so many toys to choose from and Noah had a ball sitting with Nanna and showing her which ones he liked best. Many toys were purchased and I'm sure it's safe to say that Noah is one spoilt little guy.

Day Five:
Noah woke up bright and early and had some time to play with his new toys before he got all dressed up to go out for the day. We started the day by clothes shopping for him and then for myself. By the end of this everyone had had enough of the shops and we drove to a beautiful beach for lunch and a play on the sand. Noah was not quite sure about the waves but he handled it with a beautiful, contented manner. He gave the waves a few very thoughtful looks, looked back and forth between Andy and I and took the whole experience in his stride. On the way home I shared the back seat with him and he played up big time because he could see me there and couldn't understand why I wasn't picking him up. I guess this is just another sign of his growing awareness.

Day Six:
This day was a little sombre as it was time for Nanna and Great Nanna to leave in the afternoon but we all decided to spend the day eating nice food and strolling along the esplanade. Before the day even started Noah and Daddy kicked it off with a sleep in. Just before we went to the airport we stopped into a wonderful gift shop and Noah and Nanna had a great time looking at all the special things. We said good bye. Then we went back to the hotel and had a lovely bath together with Noah's new bath toys. He liked chewing on them which was not a shock to us because his top teeth were bulging and you could see the teeth just underneath the surface of his gums.

Day Seven:
Another sleep in and the arrival of his top middle left tooth! We also drove up to the daintree forest and saw cape tribulation, cow bay and many things names after 'Noah' - Noah's walnut, Noah's beach, Noah's Range, Noah's Creek, Noah's lookout...
At Cow Bay Noah went into the ocean again and this time he was reaching out for the waves and wanted to sit down in the water. Each time a wave rolled in towards him he reached down to grab it and as they touched his stomach he pushed back up to standing. He loved it. We had to give him a water bottle shower and change his clothes but what a lovely experience! He loved grabbing the sand and sharing a crossiant with Dad. Just before we left we stopped to have and ice cream and a play on the grass before the big car ride. We were all very tired and sick of the car by the end of the day.

Day Eight:
Noah sat himself up for the first time this morning. We were so excited we clapped and clapped and so he started trying to clap to. Now every time he sits himself up, he claps himself and looks around for us to clap him too. We had a leisurely stroll through the markets in the morning and then in the afternoon Noah and Dad stayed at the hotel while I went for an hour of shopping all by myself - what a treat. We went out to Hog"s Breath Cafe for dinner and Noah really enjoyed the steak!

Day Nine:
We dragged Noah around doing jobs all day this day. It was not a highlight of the trip but a necessary evil when you live remotely. Noah was in a particularly bad mood as he also got his right top middle tooth this day.

Day Ten:
We left for our return journey. It was time for the third tooth of this holiday to arrive, the one next to the top left made it's appearance. It was certainly a day worthy of panadol. On the way we stopped at a bio-dynamic dairy farm and had the most amazing meal. Noah enjoyed playing in their high chair for a while and then he enjoyed the freedom of rolling around on the deck and smiling at each person that walked past. When we arrived at the accommodation for the night they had lovely swing chairs that we all enjoyed relaxing in. We drove around to take in the sights. When we arrived home we strolled down to see some platypus in the local creek and then had a quite dinner before heading to bed early.

Day Eleven:
We went for a lovely boat cruise on Lake Barrine. Noah loved watching the ducks fly around the boat. Noah had a great play on the floor of the teahouse and then we drove to our next destination. On the way we stopped at a strawberry farm and a dairy farm and stocked up on some lovely snacks to eat when we arrived. Noah went into the dairy farm nursery to see the baby farm animals. He was fascinated by all of the animals. When we arrived we enjoyed our snacks while Noah enjoyed exploring the deck of the cabin. That night he played a lovely game with all of his nappies - I like to call this game 'pulling nappies out one by one, wearing them on my head and leaving a lovely mess'.

Day Twelve:
We went topaz fossicking... before you say anything, you're correct... this is not an activity to attempt with a 6 month old! It was hot. Never the less, Noah enjoyed the quiet and the feeling of the pebbles in his hands as he explored the dry creek bed. He watched us work together as a team, shovelling and panning the dirt. He spent some time in the baby bjorn helping us to pan too. We didn't spend long out in the sun and when we got back to the cabin we enjoyed a nice swim to cool down. We dunked him under the water 4 times and he didn't seem to disturbed by this (unlike his mother). He was a trooper and one day we shall go fossicking again so he can participate too. The caravan park was cooking wood fired pizzas and the manager of the park couldn't help herself and had to have a cuddle of Noah while we ate our pizza. She said that she hadn't been clucky for 24 years because she hadn't seen a baby as cute as her son in that whole time until now. What a lovely compliment. Noah finished his crust of pizza and we all headed off to go to bed early.

Day Thirteen:
We got up at 4:30am to make the 5.5hour drive home. Noah handled this very well and when we arrived home Raph couldn't stop licking Noah and Noah couldn't stop smiling at Raph. It was like old friends reuniting! You could tell Noah was looking around at all the familiar surroundings and feeling happy to be home. He was stoked to be left of the floor with some of him new toys to explore his old stomping ground once more. There really is no place like home, especially when you're 6 months old.
