A Milestone

Noah turned 1 yesterday! Here is how we celebrated our day:

The night beforehand we set up one of our gifts to him... 2 tents with a tunnel between and 100 balls (like a mini ball pit). We also scattered the gifts we had received around the house so that when he came across them throughout the day he could open them. (Unfortunately the wet season has slowed most of the mail delivery but this will just mean that Noah's birthday is extended by a few weeks as the gifts come in - that's pretty cool) When he woke up in the morning we both went into the room singing 'happy birthday' to him. We let him discover the tents and he was amazed straight away. He crawled through the tunnel without hesitation and loved the balls.

Then he started to discover his first couple of gifts. Firstly, a gift from some people in town - a fire chief's helmet and a 'hammer and nails' toy that was in one of the tents. He crawled through the tunnel and found another present. It was a beautiful wooden toy, they are ice cream cones and scoops that magnetise together. This was great because the 'ice cream' part are 6 more balls so Noah was thrilled to have more balls to carry around. He walked around carrying balls and wearing his fire chief helmet for a while and then discovered another gift on the couch... He actually opened this one all by himself. It was a duplo police van that Andy and I had bought for him. So he crawled along pushing this around for about 10minutes.

He then walked down the hallway and discovered the gift from Nanna and Grandad and started to open this but got distracted by another present that he saw in the kitchen - a plate set that Andy and I also bought for him. He half opened it, then walked around with it for a while then we had to finished opening it for him because he was a was getting a bit whingy for breakfast. We gave him breakfast and read our card to him and the gift from Nanna and Grandad remained un-opened for a while longer.

After breakfast he opened another present - the duplo ambulance set from Andy and I. He played with that for a while, then he had a nap.

We he woke up, his friend had come around to visit so they played in the tent for a while. They are both very cheeky and together. They are double trouble.

Once Noah's visitors left he was interested in opening the gift from Nanna and Grandad - a lovely set of white letters that spell his name and a great Wiggles DVD. He also opened his gift from Grandma and Grandad - a box of 100 pieces of duplo. Then he asked to watch the Wiggles. He picks up the DVD case and walks over to the TV and does a little scream. It's very cute.

He was watching Wiggles and surrounded by new things for a while so we took the opportunity to make space in his bedroom for his tee-pee. We couldn't leave his whole tent set up because our house is so small but the tee-pee part and the tunnel fit in his room.

After it cooled down a little we all went for a swim. Noah was so excited about going he sat in his swimming pool toy in the middle of the lounge room before we'd even left.

By the time we'd finished swimming, he was very ready for an afternoon sleep. So he had a shower, something to eat and went down for a nap. He ended up sleeping for 3.5 hours, that's unheard of for him!!!
Meanwhile, GG (Grandad Greg) went off for a sleep and Andy and I celebrated the special day with a White Russian cocktail.

After he woke up, we had some skype calls to make. First with Aunty Kath and Grandma who made him a little cupcake with a candle to blow out.

Then with Nanna, Grandad, Great Nanna and Uncle Luke who all sang him happy birthday.

He loves skyping - he's such a show off! And I'm sure he recognises everyone's voices. He had a little play in the tupperware cupboard while we finished making dinner and then he used his new plate to have dinner.

We didn't have a cake this day because he's having cupcakes at childcare and a special cake at his birthday party on 2nd April.

We had one last play in his tent, read a story and he had a wonderful night's sleep. We couldn't have asked for a better day to share with our little man. (Well, actually, we could have asked to have more of our family with us to share it but we definitely made the most of it)

Here's to the next year of adventures with our wonderful son. Cheers!
